Exploring the dynamics and drivers for growth in the region’s blossoming gases industry, gasworld’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Industrial Gas Conference 2013 was held at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel from 3rd to 5th December.
With the theme Driving Success in a Changing Market, the conference was gasworld’s third event to be held in the Emirate of Dubai and its fourth in the Middle East overall. This event focused on the changing political, economic and gases landscape in the wider MENA region.
It came at a crucial time in the Middle East and North Africa region. Economic modernisation was driving growth for the gases industry in the region, as manufacturing capabilities expanded, and downstream integration continued.
As the typically chemicals, refineries and steel dominated market increasingly evolved and added more advanced products to its output, this also meant increased industrial gas usage per product and more opportunities for the gases industry.
At the same time, the region was in the midst of considerable political and civil change, with the well-documented Arab Spring, for example, providing one of the biggest challenges for those operating in this market.
All this was reflected in the event’s agenda, which covered a broad range of topics including bulk liquid distribution, specialty gases, the automation megatrend, argon recovery, CO2 and desalination, safety and enhanced oil recovery (EOR).
